This Vignes Vins Randos trail takes you from the heart of the Anjou vineyards - just 30 minutes from the centre of Angers - through vines and woodland to explore the village of Saint-Saturnin-sur-Loire. The route includes some of the appellation’s highest ground, and features magnificent views over the Loire and its banks as well as visits to a number of lesser-known listed monuments.

Itinerary:
  1. Starting off from Mont Rude - named for its rugged height – the trail takes us downhill, alongside the forest of Saint-Jean. Keep an eye out for some unusual lodges hidden in amongst the trees! Continue to Manoir de la Groye, a historic stately home and our first stop.  Taste a glass of coteaux-de-l’aubance paired with a selection of local speciality foods, and take the opportunity to explore the Manoir’s splendid formal French gardens.

  2. The trail continues through the vineyards, with panoramic views of the Loire Valley and the town of Angers.  After a short walk through woodland, we emerge once again to enjoy the magnificent open landscape - this time with views over Château de l’Ambroise. As we cross the village of Saint Sulpice, remember to look at the church with its mysterious inscription, said to have saved the building from destruction during the Revolution. Our next stop will be in the grounds of the Château; take a moment to admire this impressive structure as you enjoy a glass of anjou-villages-brissac and coteaux-de-l’aubance.

  3. On leaving the grounds of the Château we walk through the vines to a building that might seem rather incongruous in this vineyard landscape - an astronomical observatory. Just the place to taste a stellar appellation wine with accompanying local food specialities.

  4. Back to the vineyards and woodlands now, and on to today’s last stop, amid nature and the vines, to taste a final glass of anjou-villages-brissac and coteaux-de-l’aubance paired with regional food specialities. Take a moment to relax and enjoy the calm serenity of these vast green spaces.

Back at Mont Rude, the VVR team will be on hand to welcome you to the fun, friendly atmosphere of the VVR village. A variety of refreshments will be on offer, from a full deli-style meal (€10, pre-booking essential at the tourisme office :
02.41.91.21.50) to a selection of smaller snacks and sweets available from the Festival Committee. All the wines you tasted today will be on sale. Live music will play throughout the day for your entertainment, and children, both the young and the young at heart, will enjoy playing with the wooden toys and games provided.
Picnic space is available.

Family trail:
This is a slightly shorter trail of 3 km, and includes stops 1 and an additional stop.
