With its outstanding terroir shaped by the Loire and backed by centuries of winemaking expertise, Vouvray produces a varied range of authentic, inimitable white wines from just one grape variety - Chenin.

For the 14th edition of Vignes Vins Randos, Vouvray’s winemakers invite you to explore their terroir and learn more about their wines.  The appellation lies only minutes from the centre of Tours, yet boasts an astounding abundance of spectacular landscapes. This walk leads exclusively through the vineyards, and is a feast for the eyes.

Itinerary:
  1. On leaving the village, walk across the dike to reach the picturesque lanes of Vouvray. The path leading alongside the slope is home to a number of wineries, and will take you to our first stop, Domaine Philippe Brisebarre. The Domaine houses a troglodyte cave, a classic feature of the local landscape; here you will be served a dry vouvray served with a local food speciality.

  2. Climb a few metres higher to admire the most superb scenery: an ocean of vines as far as the eye can see and magnificent panoramic views over the valley of the Brenne. Your second stop is at the heart of the vineyard, alongside a plantation of new vines.  The winegrowers will be happy to explain the process of grafting, and how the young vines are tended for their first few years.  Taste a vouvray demi-sec served alongside speciality baked goods.

  3. The trail continues through this seemingly boundless ocean of vines. There are countless beautiful landscapes along the way, many featuring views of the Loire Valley.  Your route takes you directly to the third stop - Domaine du Clos d’Epinay - a "cave touristique excellence". Here you will learn how vouvray sparkling wines are made, and taste a sweet vouvray specially paired with a sweet treat.

Back at the village, the VVR team will be waiting to extend a warm and friendly welcome. More vouvray wines will be available to taste, and you will have a chance to buy those you tasted on your walk.  A food truck will sell a variety of fouées, a local Tours speciality. Wooden toys and games are available for young and old, with live music to add a note of harmony to the party atmosphere.

Picnic space is available.
