As part of its 80th birthday celebrations, the Chinon appellation has devised this special trail exploring its famous richly-coloured, flavoursome wines. Chinon is one of the Loire’s historic crus - sociable and fun-loving, as described in the writin

This trail is based in Ligré, just a few minutes from Chinon at the heart of the Regional Nature Park, and leads through the appellation’s hillside vineyards. Enjoy superb views of Château de Chinon and the Valley of the Vienne - without once having to leave the vines.  This is Chinon - nature at its best.

Itinerary:

  1.  A short climb through the verdant slopes of the Ligré countryside brings us to the first stop in a vineyard lodge. Enjoy a magnificent panorama of the surrounding countryside, with Chinon vineyards as far as the eye can see.   Relax in the shade of a majestic walnut tree and enjoy a glass of Chinon wine served with a selection of nut-based products.

  2. The trail continues through vineyards, fields and woodland to the second stop at Château de Ligré’s wine cellar, only recently opened to the public.  The cellar, located in a troglodyte cave, offers a pleasantly cool environment and is an opportunity to learn more about these iconic local features. A selection of wines and local specialities will be available to taste.

  3. The third stop on this trail can only be described as stunning. Domaine de Noblaie enjoys unparalleled views over the Chinon hillsides, - with tuffeau stone buildings only adding to the charm. Chinon wines will be available to taste, alongside a selection of regional products and a chance to learn about chenin, the appellation’s famous white grape variety.

  4. The final stop is a recent, highly unusual plantation of truffle oaks in a truffiere. Learn a little more about this method of production as you admire fine views of the majestic Royal Fortress of Chinon and the Vienne River.   Enjoy a glass of chinon wine served with a selection of truffle-based delicacies.

Return to the VVR village located in Ligré’s former grain depot where refreshments will be available, served amidst unique natural landscapes. Let yourself be transported by the music and the beauty of nature, and enjoy a moment of pure pleasure in this historic location.  Sample a fouée, the local speciality bread, or opt for a menu specially created for the occasion by the Ligré Festival Committee. (Booking essential).
Wines will be offered for sale, along with local speciality food products. Meanwhile, children will enjoy playing on the inflatables provided.
